Grandparent's Prayer

As soon as we know one of the girls are expecting, we begin to pray for the child as it develops in the womb. But I have made it my practice -- the first time I get to hold the child, I silently offer this special prayer. I have followed this basic pattern for all 13 of them.

#1. O Lord, I give You thanks for this child -- Ps 127:3 Lo children are an heritage from the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is His reward. (Thankfulness always becomes us when we enter into prayer.)

#2. Oh Lord, this child is a gift of Your grace, and we recognize that we are but stewards. We commit ourselves, and this child to You. 1 Peter 4:10, Psalms 37:5 Dear Lord we consecrate this child to You and Your service. ( To consecrate is the act or ceremony of separating from a common , to a sacred use, or of devoting and dedicating a person or thing to the service and worship of God. Consecration does not make a person or thing holy, but declares it to be sacred, that is devoted to God, such as the priest among the Levites, Num 3:3 and the vessels used in the temple.)

#3. Oh Lord, please don’t allow any of my sins or the sins of my children or parents to be visited upon this child. In the powerful name of Jesus and through His shed blood I break any generational curse where satan might want to get a foothold. Turn every evil desire satan has, back upon his wicked head a thousand fold. Exodus 20:5 Mark 9:14-29

#4. Lord , I pray Your blessings upon this child;

  • Bless them with salvation early in life - Romans 4:6-8
  • Give them a genuine hunger and love for Your word - 1 Pet 2:2, Psalms chpt 1, 19 & 119
  • Bless them with wisdom that is from above - James 3:17
  • Lord, I pray that You bless this child physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, and in every way that would glorify You. - Luke 2:40 & 52
  • I pray the Aaronic blessing upon this child - Numbers 6:24-26
  • Lord, please keep them from evil and the evil one - John 17:15
